What is a leap of faith? What does it mean to walk in faith? Have you ever used any of these phrases? If so, what did you mean? Let me share some examples from our faith journey.
As a young wife and mom, I was certain God was answering a prayer that my husband and I had been praying for several years. So certain that I put together a really nice plan for Him and we began exploring the possibilities of walking out OUR plan. This wasn’t a leap of faith or even walking in faith. It was us deciding on the plan and the strategies to accomplish it. Years before, we had taken a leap of faith with our finances. We were newlyweds, living on one income and a part-time job as I finished my bachelor’s degree and things were tight. Our young married Sunday school teacher was talking with us about tithing and the obedience of giving our first fruits in the local church and we took a leap of faith and began to tithe. Not tip the plate, but give a percentage of our income every month in the local church. Our obedience has brought many blessings. Our leap of faith became walking in faith, believing that in every season and every circumstance, our Heavenly Father will provide for our needs.
In our faith journey, we have had the opportunity to be obedient to His calling in other areas. Several years ago Holy Spirit began calling my family to get out of the boat and trust Jesus with the next chapter. As you saw above, I am a planner and I didn’t remember putting “get out of the boat” in the plan for our family, but knew it was prodding from Holy Spirit so we began discussing it at home. We sought Scripture for guidance and prayed for wisdom and direction. I thought beginning our tithe journey was a leap, but getting out of the boat, was a HIGH DIVE of faith into the deep end of the ocean. Let me say that God has shown-up and shown-off in our obedience!!!
Scripture provides so many examples of faith and walking in faith. Hebrews 11 starts with “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” It goes on to list example after example of people who lived by faith. Have you begun your journey of walking in faith? Get in the Word, pray expecting God to show you His next steps of faith. Take the plunge!
