Unafraid Day Eight

Faith Hebrews 11 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:1‬ ‭ “All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, admitting that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.” ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11:13‬ ‭ As humans, we have a hard time believing in things that don’t have visible proof. When we can’t see the outcome, we become more likely to choose a different path with a definite ending. Sometimes, even when the right choice is right there in front of us, our need to know everything guides us to choose the wrong decision. Last year, as a seventh grader, I played on the middle school volleyball team. We did well, and we had sixth graders that were going to be a great addition to the team the next year. Over the summer, the coach left, and it was uncertain who was going to lead the team. I was left with a choice: tryout for the high school team, and not know what the outcome was, or go into an easy tryout for middle school, and be a leader on that team. Through lots of prayer, I decided to take a chance even though the outcome was uncertain. I made the team, and got to minister to my teammates further than I could have at the middle school. Faith is tough, but can lead to great outcomes. The definition of faith is made clear in the first verse of Hebrews 11: “Confidence in what we hope for, and assurance in what we don’t see”. When I tried out for high school, I had no idea about the coach, the players, or even the school. Through faith, I made the decision to follow what God had planned for me to do, and be a leader on the team. In Hebrews 11:13 it says that those who obeyed through faith did not always see the result. This verse also says we are strangers on the Earth. As guests in our temporary home, we need to take leaps of faith that can lead others to Christ through our obedience. -Corrie Velder
