Unafraid Day Six

Having faith in something means that we trust in it's reliability. I have faith that when I sit in a chair it will hold me up or that when I flip the switch the lights will come on. Having faith in God means that I can rely on Him and trust in His reliability. Rick Warren puts it this way, “ Having faith also means that I realize that God is bigger than I am, better than I am, and that He loves me.

Hebrews 11:6 says “And without faith it is impossible to please God.”

As I look back on my journey as an adult I realize that I really didn't please God. Sure I had faith that He saved me and I trusted Him to know what was best for me, but I really did not have the faith that God could be trusted in my finances. I didn't give very much back to Him in fact I doubt that it even amounted to one percent. I kind of had this idea that God didn't need my money. As I reflect on this today I realize how foolish I was. Not only was I not pleasing God by my lack of faith, I was also missing out on the blessing and the joy that God gives us when I trust Him completely. I also think that this lack of trust kept me from growing in Christ.

About 20 years ago I was challenged to start being faithful in giving. What I have found is that God is indeed faithful. My wife and I have increased our giving every year and can truthfully say that IT IS A REAL JOY TO GIVE. We have also experienced that because we were willing to be faithful, God in return was faithful to us. Our car ran for over 300,000 miles without any major repairs (still had the original engine and transmission). I know that when I started to be faithful in giving that was also when I began to grow spiritually as well. I found that I could have an intimate relationship with God because I was completely trusting Him. As I read about all the great people of faith listed in this chapter in Hebrews they all had one thing in common, they trusted God and acted accordingly. That's how I want to live the remainder of my life!

Think again about what Hebrews 11:6 says “AND WITHOUT FAITH IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE GOD.”

Our Challenge is HOW IS OUR FAITH?
