A simple statement of living in utter expectation of the Lord even though you cannot see Him.
A statement of living a life of righteousness and being persecuted for the Lord.
A statement of knowing in our hearts that He is the true Lord of our life.
The definition of faith from Merriam Webster is “firm belief in something for which there is no proof.” Yet, we have proof that the Lord created the Heavens and the Earth and He has prepared a place for us. Faith is important in the life of a Christian, and yet when push comes to shove we try to work situations out on our own. We try to live our own life. We push God out and tell him we will pick Him up later. He wants us to live for Him and not be ashamed of Him for He is the one true God.
The writer of Hebrews talks about these Old Testament people who had faith so we can have an example so that we might have faith when the going gets tough. Hebrews 11 is referred to as Faith’s Hall of Fame and it is exactly that, it is all the best examples of people who had faith. People we can learn from people who had faith when they thought there was no solution. When they couldn’t have a child, they still had faith that God would deliver on his promise. When they were enslaved by the Egyptians, they had faith that they would be delivered to the promise land. When they were persecuted, beheaded, tortured, flogged, stoned, put in prison, and faced other things, they had faith that the Lord would deliver them.
So why then, do we try to tackle our problems by ourselves? Why do we leave God at home and go handle our problem and then come back and get Him later? Have faith. God always delivers, maybe not always the way you wanted, but remember, He is a good God.
